Ai Ling

Personal Motto: One step at a time.

For the past three and a half years, Ai Ling has been helping to keep DK running smoothly behind the scenes. While clients often see the finished deliverables and project outcomes, much of the coordination and administration that supports these successes happens long before a project reaches completion.

In her role, Ai Ling manages a wide range of responsibilities, including preparing software and project consultancy quotations and invoices, coordinating Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and tender submissions, monitoring opportunities on GeBIZ, generating payment reports, maintaining project records, and supporting marketing activities. She is also often the first point of contact for incoming calls and emails, helping ensure enquiries are directed and addressed efficiently.

Having previously worked within the building and construction industry, her move into the role felt like a natural progression.

Her industry background gave her a strong understanding of construction processes, terminology and the many moving parts required to deliver successful projects. This foundation has enabled her to support both the team and clients effectively over the years.

When asked about her proudest achievement, Ai Ling does not point to one specific project or milestone. Instead, she finds satisfaction in the bigger picture.

“Knowing that what I am doing contributes to a better built environment for all to live, work and play.”

For her, even the behind-the-scenes work plays an important part in supporting developments that positively impact communities and the wider built environment.

When describing DK’s culture, she chooses two simple words: teamwork and responsiveness. These qualities help create a supportive environment where colleagues work together, share knowledge and respond quickly to the needs of clients and projects.

Looking ahead, she is particularly interested in developing her AI skills, recognising the growing role technology plays in improving efficiency and supporting better ways of working.

Outside the office, family is a major focus. She enjoys discovering good food and preparing meals for loved ones, finding joy in simple moments spent together.

Although she jokingly describes herself as “a very boring person”, her answers reveal a different side. If she could instantly master any ability, she would choose teleportation, allowing her to travel anywhere, anytime. Unsurprisingly, her dream destination is somewhere most people would never consider: the North Pole.

When asked what three items she would bring to a deserted island, her practical side immediately emerged: a mobile phone with unlimited battery life and network coverage, an umbrella, and a lifeboat.

After a busy week, however, life’s greatest luxury is much simpler: “Beauty sleep.”

One piece of advice has stayed with her throughout both her personal and professional life: “Take one step at a time.”

It is a simple philosophy, but one that reflects her steady, dependable approach to challenges, growth and everyday success.
