Personal Motto: Love thy neighbour.

Over the past five years, JR has built a reputation for being dependable, resilient, and always ready to take on a challenge. As part of the team, he works across contract reviews, project documentation, estimates, claims, and variations, helping to keep construction projects on track from both a contractual and cost management perspective.

For JR, a career in construction felt like a natural path. Growing up with two Civil Engineer parents, he was inspired by the profession from an early age and admired the example they set throughout their careers.

Since joining DK as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, JR has worked on a variety of projects, but hospitals and libraries remain among his favourites. While both come with their own complexities, he enjoys the challenges they present and the satisfaction of seeing important community spaces come to life.

When asked about his proudest achievement, JR doesn’t point to a single project or milestone.

“My resilience and mindset. Being able to handle multiple projects at the same time while staying positive is something I’m proud of.”

Having worked alongside colleagues across numerous projects, JR describes DK’s culture in three words: reliable, responsive and friendly. These qualities create a collaborative environment where everyone works together to achieve the best outcomes for clients.

Looking ahead, JR is focused on developing his leadership skills and becoming someone others can learn from and rely upon. He’s also interested in exploring how AI can help improve efficiency within quantity surveying and construction.

Outside of work, JR enjoys playing badminton, watching anime, reading manga, and building Gundams. It’s a hobby that has become even more meaningful through his daughter.

“I enjoy building Gundams, Lego sets, and anything that interests my daughter. It’s a great way to support her interests and spend quality time together.”

If he could instantly become an expert in any skill, it would be speaking different languages, giving him the opportunity to connect with people from different cultures around the world.

After a busy week, JR enjoys unwinding with badminton, anime, manga, and building Gundams. A dedicated Linkin Park fan, he also enjoys keeping up with the latest movies and TV series. His comfort food favourites include Ananas’ Kway Teow Mee with luncheon meat and egg, as well as a hearty bowl of Bak Kut Teh.

If given the chance to travel anywhere tomorrow, JR would head straight to the United Kingdom to visit his mum, ideally bringing his wife and daughter along for the trip.

One thing that might surprise his colleagues is his self-proclaimed superpower:

“I can sleep even when it’s really noisy.”

The best advice he has ever received is to “love thy neighbour”, a philosophy that continues to guide both his personal and professional life by treating others with kindness, respect, and understanding.

It’s an outlook that aligns closely with another saying he lives by:

“Common sense is more valuable than gold or precious jewels.”
