Delivering a Purpose-Built Sports Facility

The Proposed Development of Sport Facility at 1 Bedok Street 2 was undertaken to provide dedicated sporting and supporting facilities within an efficiently planned development. The design and build project comprises four unsheltered netball courts and two sheltered netball courts, supported by spectator seating, changing and toilet facilities, offices, storage areas, circulation spaces, fencing, and associated infrastructure.

With a proposed gross floor area of approximately 3,044 sqm and a contract sum of S$5.76 million, the project required careful management of costs across a range of sporting, operational, and supporting facilities. The 12-month construction programme also required the project team to coordinate design development, statutory requirements, procurement, construction, and commercial considerations within a defined timeframe.

As consultant quantity surveyor, DK supported the project through structured cost management and commercial oversight, helping stakeholders maintain financial visibility as the design and construction requirements progressed.

Managing Costs for Sports Facility Development

The project brief identified a number of statutory and regulatory milestones involving agencies including URA, LTA, NParks, PUB, NEA, and FSSD. These requirements formed part of the wider project delivery process and reinforced the importance of effective coordination between design, construction, programme, and commercial considerations. From a quantity surveying perspective, maintaining cost visibility within this evolving environment was essential. Commercial oversight enabled financial considerations to remain part of the decision-making process as the project progressed through its various stages.
